What is meant by sitemap?
Well, let me come to the point now… Sitemap is nothing but the mapping structure of the web pages of a website for easy access to the users and search engine robots. Sitemaps are classified into two categories: (i) HTML Sitemap and (ii) XML Sitemap. As I have already told you, sitemaps are created for the easy access to the users and web crawlers. HTML sitemap is meant for users whereas XML sitemaps for bots. A question could have raisen in your mind,
Is there any benefit of using these kind of sitemaps in the website?
Yep! Both in search engine point of view and user point of view, these sitemaps are the most important one. If you put the HTML sitemap in your website that would be a great way to distribute the PageRank throughout the website. And also it help the bots to crawl all the web pages present in the website easily. It would be better if you implement a separate html sitemap page in your website. Create HTML sitemap is an easy task, you can do it by chronologically, alphabetically or as you wish but make sure that you have used the proper keywords as anchor text in pointing the web links which help you for better keyword ranking and increase the internal links value.
XML sitemaps are purely coding related which contains the extensible markup languge, you can put the necessary information like web page links, frequency of crawling, web page priority, etc. These sitemaps are considered as a standard programming language for web crawlers to find and parse sitemaps. If you do submit your website in search engines and directories, it would take more time to index the web pages in search engines which will delay in ranking. Instead, you can submit the XML sitemaps in all the major search engine webmasters (Google, Yahoo and Bing) would help to index and crawl the web pages of a website immediately.
