Each and every webmaster implements the web analytics code in their websites to find out the traffic stats. Google analytics is a web analytics tool powered by Google which is considered as one of the on-page factor since it aids the webmasters by many ways. As high traffic cannot be obtained only by submitting the websites in search engines, directories, forums, etc. the on page factors should be monitored in the site to bring the quality traffic for longer duration.

One among them is website speed a.k.a load time, where the major search engines give preference to this factor. Hence the website speed is considered to be the main criteria for ranking high in search engines. The Google analytics allows tracking the load time of the webpages so that we can find out how to increase the speed of the website. As a result, we can redesign it accordingly and make the necessary changes to lower the web pages load time.

Though this feature is not provided by Google Analytics, it can be done easily by adding the following line in the existing analytics code:

The search giant Google has developed lot of internet tools for various purposes. For example, Google Analytics is a web analytics tool where the user can view the complete statistical report of a website like total number of visits, unique visitors, where the visitors from, whether they land through referrals or search engines, how much time they spend on website and so on. They have updating new features in Google Analytics day by day in order to provide user-friendly and meaningful. One among them is the “Custom Reporting“. I don’t know how many of you webmaster guys aware of this feature, but this would be helpful to find out the necessary statistics alone which it helped me too.

A couple of days back, a question raised in my mind how to check the total number of visits for a particular web page in a website. For example, if I want to check the visits for the page (/products/beatz) in the website http://www.cogzidel.com/, is it possible to check in an ordinary web analytics feature? Of course, we can check it through Top Content section, but the report would provide metrics like Pageviews, Avg. Time on site, Bounce rate alone and not visits where Visits and Pageviews are entirely different.

No problem at all. That’s why the search giant introduced the feature called Custom Reporting where you can find out the visits too for a particular web page in the website.

How it works?

The purpose of this feature is to customize your analytics report according to your needs. In the left pane of the Google Analytics, you will notice a link on Custom Reporting. You can proceed custom reporting just by click on the link “Create New Custom Report“. After that you will be landed on a web page where it contains two set of frames: (i) Metrics and Dimensions (ii) Statistical view of customized metrics and dimensions. In the Metrics pane, you can find lot of division like content, site usage, etc. Similarly in Dimension pane parameters like Visitors, Traffic Sources, Content and so on. You can drag the necessary metrics and dimensions from left frame and drop in the appropriate section of the right side frame. For example, I have created a custom report for the metrics like Visits, Unique visitors, Pageviews, Avg. time on site, Bounce rate for the web pages in the website http://www.cogzidel.com/. Finally save the custom report once finishing the drag and drop of necessary metrics and dimensions in the right pane. Now you can be able to view the statistics like visits, unique visitors, bounce rate, etc. for the web pages present in the website. Web Analytics is a fantastic tool to identify the complete statistics of the visitors like where they are from, for what keywords they are landing and so on. It helps not only on viewing statistics of the visitors to a website and also assist webmasters to bring awareness where they lack in and how to improve the visitor rate. Lot of web analytics tool are available in the Internet market today, one among them is Google Analytics developed by Search Giant Google. Google Analytics provide the information about the visitors country and territory details, referrals, visitors from search engines, specific content and page title, etc.

Today I noticed a new version link of Google Analytics tool available in the top right of the website. When compared to old version, Google Analytics new version is well designed and looks glossy seem to be very user friendly in nature. This new design comprises of three parts (i) Dashboard (ii) My site and (iii) Custom Reports. My site tab contains Reports and Intelligence part. Reports section show the complete statistics of the visitors and Intelligence is a new feature helps the webmaster to provide alerts about the visitors on daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Google analytics in page analytics

Another wonderful update happened in one of the Google Web Applications today. That is Google Analytics, a web analytics tool that provides complete statistics about the visitors to a website. Now, it is featured with new data visualization interface called as “In-Page Analytics” previously available as “Site Overlay” tool which seems to be noteworthy, momentous and glossy. This new featured tool brings more information about the webpage of the site. The website is displayed on the right side along with percentage values in every link of the webpage provides statistical data like Clicks, Goal value, etc. At the same time it reveals the important data of the particular page of website in the left side like Pageviews, Unique views, Time on page, Bounce Rate, % of Exit, % of Entrance as we have already seen in Site overlay tool earlier.

So What is User Defined Report?

The user defined variable allows you to “label” a visitor if they complete a certain action on your site, such as making a purchase or visiting a key page. These labels are useful because they last across multiple visits to your site.

These labels are often called Custom Segments (or Custom Segmentation). You can see the data from these Custom Segments in the User Defined report, which is the last report of the Visitors section in Google Analytics. Read More

setVar(”customers”); The parameter which is bold denotes that the includes _setVar. When this is present on a page within the Google Analytics Tracking Code, an additional cookie (called the __utmv cookie) gets set on a visitor’s computer, with its sole purpose being to identify the visitor by the label (or value) that you used in the code. If you take a look at the code example above, you will see that I used the term “customers,“ the label that I want to appear in the User Defined report.

Usage of Set_var when user clicks

Yes – you can also use the pageTracker._setVar function when someone clicks on an important link on your site, or makes a key selection on an important form that you want visitors to fill out. For example, if you wanted to add a custom label to any visitor who clicks on your “Live Help” applet, you can ask your IT department or webmaster to add an “onClick” event, and give them the following line of code:
