8. Read and Unread messages pointed out clearly –Both will have different background colors and the Unread messages will have their fonts in bold
9. Property type can be edited by the Admin – When creating listing, the admin will have the right to add/edit the property type of the listing.

I get nostalgic when I think of this topic as we formed our first Magento team five years back. We were carried away and lost with our first Magento project. It took us some time to realize that Magento is different logic and uses EAV database model and the MVC model which is different from the traditional one.

It was interesting as we learned and mastered Magento on a real time client project and were successful in completing the project on time.

Just thought it would be nice to give a brief insight on “BEHIND MAGENTO”.  It will be easy for people who start with Magento to have a brief understanding and can plan their learning.

This is what goes behind Magento :

• Magento is powered by Zend Framework.
• Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) database model which is used by Magento to store data.The data is recorded as 3 columns;
  • The Entity:  The item being described.
  • The Attribute or Parameter: A foreign key into a table of attribute definitions. At the very least, the attribute definitions table would contain the following columns: an attribute ID, attribute name, description, data type, and columns assisting input validation, e.g., maximum string length and regular expression, set of permissible values, etc.
  • The value of the attribute.
• Magento uses its own Model-View-Controller (MVC) model which is different from traditional MVC model.  Magento’s MVC model follows:
  • The use of a layout file to control what’s displayed on each view.
  • The use of “blocks” that can be inserted into any view easily via the layout.
  • The use of a model re-write system.

What is HTML 5?

HTML or Hypertext Markup Language is a formatting language that programmers and developers use to create documents on the Web. The latest edition HTML5 has enhanced features for programmers such as <video>, <audio> and <canvas> elements. You view a Web page written in HTML in a Web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. The HTML5 language has specific rules that allow placement and format of text, graphics, video and audio on a Web page. Programmers use these programming tags or elements to produce web pages in unique and creative ways. Tags such as <section>, <article>, <header> enable the creator to make a more efficient and intelligent web page. Users will not have to use a Flash plug-in for video and audio content. Visual Studio users typically write code in HTML5 when creating web site content.

HTML5 defines a variety of new input types:

• Spinners
• Range
• Date
• color choosers
• List
• Email
• URL
• Telephone Input
• Search  and etc…

Spinners

This input type lets you collect a number (either integer or floating point). All known browsers that support this use a spinner. Your browser (Firefox 6 on Windows) does not support this input element.

Range

This input type lets you collect a number (either integer or floating point). All known browsers that support this use a slider. The exact value is not displayed to the user unless you use JavaScript. So, use the number (spinner) input type if you want to let the user choose an exact value. Browsers are supposed to use a horizontal slider unless you attach CSS that specifies a smaller width than height, in which case they are supposed to use a vertical slider. Your browser (Firefox 6 on Windows) does not support this input element.

Date

This input type lets you collect a date. Opera uses a textfield with a calendar that pops up when you clieck in the textfield, and it is expected that this is what most future browsers will do. However, the current version of Chrome (8.0.552.224) uses an interface that looks like a number spinner but increments the yyyy-mm-dd string one day at a time. As of January 2011, neither Firefox, Internet Explorer, nor Safari has any support at all for date input. There are also closely related elements to let you select a month (input type=”month”), week (input type=”week”), time (input type=”time”), date and time in global format (input type=”datetime”), and date and time in local format/timezone (input type=”datetime-local”). Note that the modernizr.com library incorrectly reports that the latest version of Chrome (8.0.552.224) does not support date input, when in fact it does (albeit with a much poorer interface than Opera).

Color

This input type lets you collect a color of the form #rrggbb. If a browser supports this input type, the intention is that clicking in the textfield will result in a color chooser popping up. Note that the modernizr.com library incorrectly reports that the latest version of Opera (11.00 build 1156) does not support color input, when in fact it does.

List

Adding the “list” attribute lets you add autocomplete behavior to most of the text-oriented input types (reqular textfields, email, URL, search, etc.) covered in this tutorial. The value of “list” should be the id of a “datalist” element that contains “option” elements giving the choices.

Note that the new (and poorly named) HTML5 “autocomplete” attribute is not used for these lists of choices, but instead is a flag that tells the browser whether or not it should used stored form values from previous sessions.

Sadly, the HTML5 autocompletion has no options for customizing the look, for using HTML in the autocomplete list, or for defining how the match against the choices is performed. So, if you are using JavaScript anyhow, the autocompleters from Scriptaculous, jQuery UI, Ext/JS, Dojo, etc., are far more usable. Your browser (Firefox 6 on Windows) does support this input element.

If the “list” attribute is specified, then the intention is that the browser lets the user choose among a set of email addresses defined separately with the “datalist” element. Your browser (Firefox 6 on Windows) does support this input element.

As of January 2011, the latest versions of Chrome and Safari claim to support URL input, but have no difference in look or behavior. As of January 2011, the latest version of Opera has no difference in look on input, but, performs minor editing on change and validates illegal characters on submission. On change, Opera adds “http://” to the front of URLs that lack it. (The definition of onchange is when you enter something and then click in a different textfield or otherwise have the original textfield lose focus.) On submission, Opera gives an error message if the URL contains illegal characters, but does not do full URL validation (e.g., “http://blah” [no host] and “htp:” [bogus protocol, no host] are both allowed).

Telephone Input

As of January 2011, Chrome, Safari, and Opera claim to support telephone input, but show no difference when entering values and perform no validation when submitting values. Your browser (Firefox 6 on Windows) does support this input element.

The server runs on Nginx Webserver and my dev team faced a strange issue. The website allows the users to upload music or video files up to 2MB in size and nothing more than that

We got “Upload error 413″ as the error message.

Are you curious to know how we resolved the issue?

Here is the step by step instruction how to resolve the error message.

(i) Login as root in your SSH

(ii) #vi /etc/nginx/nginx.conf (open nginx configuration file)

(iii) Add the below line in nginx configuration file in http sector

“client_max_body_size 15M;”

(iv)Save the file by pressing esc :wq

(v) Then Press Enter

(vi) Type service nginx restart to restart the nginx service!

(vii) That’s it !! Now nginx allow you to upload any MP3 / Video files up to 15 MB.

(viii) You can change the 15M to whatever size you want

It’s a technical post related to the system administration. We wanted to share this blog to our visitors, regular readers and for someone who search for related issue. Our System Administrator, Boominadha Prakash recently switched some of the PC(s) to ‘ Dedicated Internet Leased Line’ which had IPCop enabled server and since then we ran into a weird issue .Our Courier team (Coined by C-Team) were unable to run their Kayako Live Response V3 tool for some reason. With the help of Boomi we learned that it was due to the IPCop (Firewall) that blocked while logging into the app.

The summary of the issue and fix is as follows.

 

Problem:

 

If the IPCop is enabled, it blocks the Kayako Live Response V3 to login.

 

The software shows the following error:

 

“A communication with the server has failed. Details: HTTP Error 417

An error occurred while attempting to communicate with the server (online 00:00:00):

The server returned an error response.

Data: ()

Error: HTTP Error 417 “

 

Reason:

• When using the HTTP Web Request to POST form data using HTTP 1.1. It always adds the following HTTP Header : “Expect: 100- continue”
• Squid firewall blocks this “Expect: 100- continue” HTTP Header

Solution:

 

Let’s go to the solution part now. In order to fix this issue, you need to add 1 line in squid configure file.

Rule: ignore_expect_100 on

File Location: /var/ipcop/proxy/squid.conf or /etc/squid/squid.conf

 

Steps

• Open Terminal
• Login as root
• # vi /etc/squid/squid.conf
• add this line : ignore_expect_100 on
• Then press esc :wq to save and exit the file

PS: The issue only pertains in the Kayako LIVE Response V3 only. In V4, there is a built-in option to overcome this problem .

Although, it’s a simple fix, we couldn’t find this fix anywhere. Therefore, we hope this post would be helpful for freelancers/ companies who use Kayako Live Response V3.
